inflorescence body of work (After a lengthy displacement due to the flood in New Orleans, being home was grand and the flora I encountered on a daily basis was not taken for granted. These suspended fabric constructions were made within the first year of being back in the city. They were totally inspired by banana flowers, angel trumpets and night blooming cereus. My fabric choices for this set included silk organza combined with varying weights of linen. It took several months to manifest the body of ten pieces since I was also teaching full-time in a New Orleans public school. During this phase of adjustment in my world, also came the realization that my generation could now indeed be considered the guardians and the keepers -- when we as children begin to look after our parents.) title page page, and link to: sculpture: inflorescence1
